M6 Southbound Closed Again Overnight between Penrith and Shap

National Highways will once again close the M6 Southbound overnight between Junction 40 and Junction 39 to enable bridge inspections and bridge repair work to continue on the M6 near Clifton.

To complete work safely, National Highways will close the M6 overnight between 10pm to 6am Southbound tonight Tuesday 25th November as the third and final night of planned closures this week on the section of the M6.

Signed diversions for M6 traffic will be via the A6 between J40 and J39 at Shap.

Drivers diverted with M6 closures on Monday night faced delays along the A6 due to a broken down HGV at Clifton overnight leading to advice to plan your journey and expect delays if the closure will impact your planed journey overnight.

National Highway said “We’re working overnight when traffic is lowest and have speed restrictions on the diversion to reduce disruption.”

“Thank you for your patience while we carry out these important works.”
