Long delays continue around Penrith as police crash investigation closes A66.

Long tailbacks continue around Penrith on the A66 and M6 this afternoon following a road traffic accident on the A66 Eastbound between J40 and Kemplay roundabout.


The Westbound carriageway was also closed for a period but is now reopened but traffic is reported to be back beyond Center Parks this afternoon.


The Eastbound carriageway remains closed with diversions in operation.


Police crash investigations are underway with a casualty airlifted to hospital following an incident that is understood to have involved a pedestrian and a HGV at approximately 12:40 today.


Police have not given any further details or expected time of the reopening of the A66 fully.
