Fire Crew Called to Large Grass Fire caused by abandoned Camp Fire

Yesterday around 8pm on Saturday night fire fighters from Penrith were mobilised to a fire on grassland near Mosedale.

On arrival firefighters found a camp fire had spread to a large area of grass and gorse.

The people responsible for the campfire are believed to have just left the area leaving the fire to spread.

Luckily some people nearby had spotted the flames and smoke and called Cumbria Fire services.

One fire engine was deployed from Penrith to extinguished the fire using a hose reel jet.

Once the fire was fully extinguished firefighters  tidied up and disposed of the mess those responsible for the fire had left which included glass bottles and bits of pallets that had been thrown into the beck and bushes.
